visit.brussels visit.brussels is the tourism communication agency for the Brussels-Capital Region, the aim of which is to widen and improve the image of the capital of 500 million Europeans. It is organised into five pillars, each of which has its own objectives, in order to carry out the department's mission. This promotion and communication mission is carried out in line with a peer marketing strategy which aims to reach members of communities of interest (comics, art nouveau/deco, jazz, surrealism, Europe, contemporary art, gastronomy, etc.) or communities of identity (conference goers, international associations, families, LGBT community, etc.) by promoting the assets of Brussels for these communities.

visit.brussels is the communication agency responsible for tourism in the Brussels-Capital Region, its key missions are:

  • to enhance and strengthen the image of the capital, at national and international level,
  • to increase the amount of visitors in Brussels,
  • to promote the touristic and cultural agenda of the 19 communes of the Brussels-Capital Region.

visit.brussels is structured according to 5 segments, each with their own objectives, which combine to form one entity.

The promotion and communication mission is carried out on the one hand through an affinity marketing strategy, aimed at reaching members of interest-based communities (comics, art nouveau/art deco, jazz, surrealism, Europe, contemporary art, gastronomy, etc.). On the other hand, we focus on identity in order to put conference attendees, international associations, families, the LGBT community… in touch with these communities, always with an emphasis on the strengths of Brussels.

Mission of the Front-end Developer & UI/UX Designer

The Web Developer reports directly to the Digital Communication Manager.

The Web Developer’s mission is to set up and monitor all web development projects of visit.brussels.

He/she is responsible for building the ‘client-side’ of our applications. He/she should be able to translate our company and customer needs into functional and appealing interactive applications and thus create a user-friendly environment by writing code.

He/she is a tech-savvy professional, who is curious about new digital technologies and continually aspires to combine usability with visual design.

His/her aim is to create a functional and attractive digital environment for our company, that ensures a great user experience.

Responsibilities & tasks

  • Use markup languages like HTML to develop user-friendly web pages
  • Maintain and improve the website
  • Optimise applications in order to guarantee maximum speed
  • Write in “clean”, well-designed code
  • Design mobile-based features
  • Collaborate with back-end developers in order to improve usability
  • Get feedback from, and build solutions for users and customers
  • Write functional requirement documents and guides
  • Create quality mock-ups, prototypes and designs
  • Support the entire application lifecycle (concept, design, test, release and support)
  • Help Back-end Developers with coding and troubleshooting
  • Ensure high-quality graphic standards and brand consistency
  • Stay up-to-date on emerging technologies
  • Follow the organisation’s best practices

Profile

  • Proven work experience (minimum 1 year) as a Front-end Developer
  • Hands-on experience with markup languages
  • Experience with JavaScript (vanilla), CSS, preprocessors and jQuery
  • Familiarity with browser testing and debugging
  • Thorough understanding of the entire web development process (design, development and deployment)
  • Understanding of layout aesthetics
  • Knowledge of SEO principles
  • Familiarity with OOP design principles
  • Understanding of PHP, database and back-end principles
  • Familiarity with software such as Adobe Suite, Photoshop, InVision and content management systems
  • Large organisational skills
  • Ability to cope with tight deadlines
  • Methodical, organised & meticulous
  • Dynamic, proactive and creative attitude
  • Passionate about Brussels
