The shipping industry is currently seeing increasing efforts to reduce emissions and crank up efficiency. Next to long-term innovations, companies need to act now to reach the IMO’s decarbonisation goals. Costly issues like fouling detection and weather routing often remain unsolved or solved suboptimally. This is in part due to the industry's inclination to stick with outdated formulas, instead of fully embracing the mountains of data available to them. This results in additional fuel consumption, hurting the companies’ bottom-line and damaging the environment irrevocably. Embracing these new data sources in combination with machine learning techniques makes it possible to extract clear insights and actionable metrics, allowing for optimal fleet management.
